Capitol Reef 5-13 May 2018

We took what is becoming a familiar flight from Boston to Salt Lake City, this one a very late Friday night departure. We stayed next to the airport in SLC overnight then, on Saturday morning raided Walmart for 50 liters of bottled water and a camera tripod (coz someone forgot to pack either one of the two we already own!). Then we jumped in the rental car (a bigger one than usual, which will be justified later) and headed for Capitol Reef National Park in Utah.

We love the rich colours in the desert sandstone

We stopped in Torrey just before the park entrance and spoke to a lovely woman in the information center; she told us that all of the campsites in the park and in Torrey were full. She recommended going to Sleepy Hollow on the East side of the park. Good call; there were only 2 RVs and 1 other tent! I suppose it’s just not on the well traveled route from SLC, which is a shame for the very pleasant farmer, but nice and quiet for us.

  1. Fab report as usual. What amazing colours in the rock and the flora. Love the bird and lizard shots too – the variations in colours in the scales on the lizard are stunning.
Glad you had a good time.
I’m getting quite anxious that I need to be able and capable of walking properly again by Sept, it’s fast approaching! I’ve now got tendon trouble in my left hip, probably from over compensating while right ankle then knee were bad. Frantically doing my hip flexor exercises in hope of speedy recover.
Think we have decided on Yosemite instead of Yellowstone now. Looking forward to discovering somewhere new 😀
